Tompkins has completed Step 1

The Palmetto Scoop is proud to announce that, after eight long years, South Carolina political consultant and Mitt Romney’s senior advisor J. Warren Tompkins has finally finished the first of his 12 steps toward recovery from political sleaziness when he admitted Friday to Bloomberg reporters that he was behind the ruthless attacks on John McCain in 2000.
Some practitioners of the dark political arts defend these tactics. In 2004, Warren Tompkins, a veteran South Carolina political strategist who worked the Bush campaign in 2000, was asked why operatives spread false rumors about McCain in that race. “It worked, didn’t it?” said Tompkins, who now works for Romney. It’s not that this is a secret, but it marks a very big moment for Warren as he begins his journey toward reforming himself, and we should congratulate him.
And I really do have to hand it to him because he has certainly been on his best behavior in the final weeks of this year’s South Carolina presidential primary. Of course, that could have to do with the fact that his candidate has already left the state, never to return.
Regardless, the road to recovery is paved with difficulties, Warren, and there are still eleven very strenuous steps that lie ahead. But we wish you the best as you work to overcome this illness.

1. The article cites a 2004 comment, so you this post is totally spurious.
2. He was asked why someone would use tough tactics, and he answered because they work. That’s not a claim that he did them.
3. It sounds like your drinking buddy in Quinndom Trey Walker is unrepentant.
No matter how u slice it, Tompkins is scum.
I know, I know, I’m violating Godwin’s Law here, but I have to say it. Who is that guy next to Tomkins and doesn’t he resemble Hitler?
Anybody watch Jonah Goldberg get skewered by Jon Stewart over his joke of a book? Well heck, now we got us a connection between *Conservatism* and historical Fascism!
