I’ll admit that when the campaign of White House hopeful John McCain first launched its “truth squad” it seemed a little cheesy. But so far they’ve proven to be incredibly adept at snuffing out false rumors and bogus attacks against their candidate.
And today the truth squad was very quick to respond to the pro-Mike Huckabee push poll calls that have been placed across South Carolina by by Common Sense Issues, a 501 (c)(4) organization based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Attorney General Henry McMaster released this statement almost immediately after heavy reports of the calls:
“Last evening the Associated Press reported that that an out-of-state special interest group, Common Sense Issues, had launched a massive push polling effort disparaging John McCain and other candidates for president. In their push poll, Common Sense Issues makes several misleading claims regarding John McCain’s record.
“Allow me to set the record straight. In the U.S. Senate, John McCain has been an unwavering voice for the rights of the unborn. He has fought, without concern of political consequence, to eliminate wasteful spending in Washington. And John McCain understands that solving the problem of illegal immigration requires that we secure our borders first.
“I urge voters in South Carolina to join me in rejecting these negative and misleading attacks.”
I honestly think Team Huckabee or whomever paid for these calls is completely wasting their money. At best, they piss off a whole lot of voters. At worse, they victimize the target of the attacks and end up costing themselves precious votes.

Obviously the other canidates are hoping to get the vote of those that are basically willing to believe anything in the first place. If someone will stoop so low as to do something like this then they are 1) scared of his opponent 2) doesn’t have confidence in himself to get the job done 3) doesn’t have confidence in the voter’s to pick him as the best person for the job.
I know I research all of the candidates to see who I will vote for. I hope the all voters will do the same and just not take a candidates word for something. Especially don’t take someone calling your home saying something about another candidate. I don’t vote based on color, religion or sex. I vote on whom I think can can best meet the needs of this country not my personal needs.
