FoxNews has released a new poll of likely South Carolina Republican voters — the third such poll to hit today — that showed Sen. John McCain with a solid lead over former Gov. Mike Huckabee. What all this polling shows us is that this state’s primary is essentially a two-man race.

Results:

  1. John McCain – 25%
  2. Mike Huckabee – 18%
  3. Mitt Romney – 17%
  4. Fred Thompson – 9%
  5. Ron Paul – 5%
  6. Rudy Giuliani – 5%

Just checked out the poll. It is seven days old and was taken only one day and that day was the day after the Fox News debate.

I am sure a lot has changed since then and I would throw this poll out and go with the two newer polls. They show Huckabee, McCain and Thompson higher than that.

I have run several campaigns in the NW and have worked with the Rasmussen folks in the past. I don’t know anything about the Clemson poll and their techniques.

If I had to bet I would bet that Scott Rasmussen has a better picture of the race. McCain staying steady (maybe dropping a bit after some of the recent attacks.) at aroun 28%.

Huckabee, after the loss in Michigan going from 19 to 18%.

Fred because of the old fashioned shoe leather (like McCain and Clinton in New Hampshire) bumped to 17%.

Probably put Mitt at about the same spot.

But the Fox News Dynamics poll is way to stale to put any merit to it at all.

Keep shilling for McCain till he crashes and burns like he did last time. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving sellout.

Fred Thompson is rising and rising fast. About time people are realizing who the real conservative is in this race.

    GO FRED GO!

I am not shilling for McCain. Actually to tell the truth I am personally in favor of Fred Thompson.

I was merely discussing the reality of the dates and veracity of the various polls based on my experience in campaign consulting.

I admit I don’t know anything about the Clemson poll and will plead ignorance on that one. I do know Zogby and Rasmussen and the date on the Fox News poll speaks for itself.

I personally WANT to believe that McCain is actually sliding in South Carolina about .5% to 1% per day based on the Rasmussen poll and will end up around 20%. However that is more of a personal hope/belief and I am trying to give some perspective outside of my personal beliefs.

Now if someone wanted to hear my “personal” hope/belief it would be more like this:
Romney has pulled out of SC altogether, again, so he will be a non-factor. 15%

McCain continues his slide to 20%

Huckabee (who is sliding by all the polls) will end up with 18%

Thompson is gaining about 2% per day starting from last Friday at 10% to finish at about 26 to 27%.

Spread the rest around to the other candidates.

So there… how is that for “shilling for McCain?”

    Yip Yip
