Huckabee Push Polling Smear Continues in SC

It’s getting nasty!

Political phone calls ave been coming in every hour here at Mike’s America. Most of them don’t even connect, but hang up after I answer.

One call which did connect was especially curious.

It claimed to be an automated poll for the upcoming SC GOP primary on Saturday.

The first question was: “Do you support President Bush?”

I answered yes and the call ended.

A neighbor got a similar call and answered no. The automated “poll” then proceeded to explain why Huckabee is the only candidate who wants to end illegal immigration and that the others, primarily Romney were for amnesty.

The phone number for both calls was:(703) 961-1077.

And caller ID displayed the name: L Hinton

Using a reverse phone number lookup the following information is available online:

L Hinton
13296 LEAFCREST LN
FAIRFAX, VA 22033
(703) 961-1077

This same phone number has been connected to similar calls in Michigan (see this bulletin board discussion) and other states.

TPM Muckraker has the full story as well as the link to a group called Common Sense Issues which is operating a web site : Trust Huckabee.

In a December 17th press release, Mike Huckabee denied any connection to this group: “As I’ve said before, our campaign has nothing to do with push polling and I wish they would stop. We don’t want this kind of campaigning because it violates the spirit of our campaign.”

And yet the slime continues to ooze in the Palmetto State!

Only three more days!

  1. Why ATP will never support Mike Huckabee for President; Open letter to South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster

I had every intention of staying out of the Presidential primary. I really did. But this evening, Mike Huckabee made me change my mind. While sitting at home, minding my own business - my telephone rings. It’s not bad enough to get calls at nearly 9 PM from people wanting to talk about the issues du jour, but getting autocalls - and push polling autocalls to boot - really got my nerve up.

It’s one thing to attack your opponent - a necessary evil in politics. But to be so cowardly as to call people from a number that is disconnected, with a fake committee name, violate South Carolina law, and claim to be a Christian is just baffling to me. If Mike Huckabee really disavows and doesn’t support this tactic, but is so incompetent to stop people who are calling on his own behalf - just imagine how (in)effective he would be in international politics signing treaties and other sensitive “Presidential responsibilities”.

Whoever you vote for - ATP respectfully asks that you do not vote for Mike Huckabee. He is not who we need as the Republican nominee for President.

Open Letter to South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster:

Earlier this evening, at approximately 8:50 PM on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, I received a telephone call from telephone number 703-961-1077 with the Caller ID of “Hinton, L”. Answering the phone, I was asked if I would participate in a 45 second poll on the presidential primary. After being asked if I supported President Bush and was planning to vote in the South Carolina Primary, I was asked whom I planned to support. I responded Fred Thompson. I was immediately thrown into a series of questions asking my position on illegal immigration, abortion, and others. Each question went as follows: “Are you pro-life” My answer “Yes”. Their response: “Did you know that Senator Fred Thompson [contradicting pro-life stance], and that Governor Mike Huckabee has [supporting pro-life stance]. After answering two of the questions, I took out my tape recorder and recorded the rest of the conversation. Being acutely aware of push polling tactics and negative campaigning, I answered some of the questions based on the responses that would illicit a negative response from the caller. I have attached a copy of the voice recording of the second half of the auto call (unfortunately the really good nasty stuff was during the first half of the call), as well as photos of the caller ID displaying the callers name, telephone number, and time of call.

It is my request that you pursue these individuals to the fullest extent of the law. You may reach me at the contact information listed above.

    Sincerely,

  2. Anybody see that ridiculous Huckabee fraud at the Columbia Convention Center today? There’s a South Carolina Pastors convention going on. All candidates were told that none of them would be allowed to address the convention. This was the position of the event organizers from the very beginning of the planning for this event, and they held that position right up until the event began.
But what happened this morning? Mike Huckabee addressed the convention. He was introduced by the big evangelical Tim LaHaye, who probably (or might as well have) endorsed Huckabee. What a fraud.
That’s been the trouble with the SC Huckabee team from the beginning. Talk about liars, deceit, dishonesty, etc. Sure does figure that they go around bragging about what a Christian good ole Mike is. Total hypocrisy.
Ever since that Family Research Council straw poll that Huck won in DC in mid-Sept., I’ve been calling out Jim Dobson as a secret operative for the Huck camp. Why haven’t more people figured this out.
Not to mention that Huck and Dobson believe in Armageddon, and that every Christian will have to rally to save the state of Israel, and that Jewish people will have a superior place in Heaven to Christians. Now talk about conspiracy theories! Forget Ron Paul; Huck’s got the craziest of all.
And beyond that, if you want to see hypocrisy, go visit Dobson’s office in Colorado. He only hires flamers who’ve graduated from Pat Robertson’s Regent University program on how not to be gay. ‘Pray away the gay’, or something like that. Of course, Huck bends over backwards to hire gays and promise extreme sympathy toward them. Not there are really that many bigots out there who care. The point is that they’re mostly going for Huck right now, and their man is chalked full of hypocrisy.

  3. Tim: I didn’t see that… But I did get a Huckabee mailing on immigration that gave the misleading impression that the Minutemen border security folks were behind Huckabee.

Huck’s campaign is starting to stink up the state!

  5. Can you say Elmer Gantry reborn??? This guy is the Theocrat that he and his followers are telling us that Romney will be. Who held up aid to Arkadelphia Arkansas Katrina victims over “acts of God” clause, insurance language centuries old? Rev. Mike that’s who. Yet when preachers said God was punishing America and New Orleans with Katrina—utter silence.

Then who urges parole and pardons based on a minister saying that the convicted felon has found Jesus and won’t do bad things again. Tell that to the mother of a girl raped and murdered here in Missouri.

    Now the push polls…….

Can you say “whited sepulchre ?

  6. These calls are an epidemic and are invading the privacy of All American Voters.

Our members are taking a stand and saying enough is enough at the National Political Do Not Contact Registry at StopPoliticalCalls.org.

Here is a quote from a member this morning:

“I find it very frustrating… I tend to get calls at the WORST time. I have a one year old daughter, and it NEVER fails that the phone will ring when I put her down for a nap or for bed. Also my vote is PRIVATE… so who do you think you are calling with a survey to find out who I am voting for!!! Stop calling me.”
