It’s a good thing the presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain set up a truth squad, because they are already receiving reports of “push polls, attack pieces and other malicious campaign practices. An e-mail sent to supporters cautions that they do not yet have conclusive proof, but that individuals should be aware of possible smear tactics.

If you receive any malicious messages, letters, phone calls, e-mails, fliers or any other form of “negative” information about John McCain, please contact our McCain Truth Hotline directly at 803.477.6987 or email us at southcarolina@johnmccain.com as quickly as possible. (Note: If the attack is made over the telephone, either by a caller or by a recorded message, please save the recording and take note of the CALLER ID phone number for use as evidence of these unethical and possibly illegal campaign tactics.)

Thank you for helping protect Senator McCain from false attacks during these last days leading up to our January 19 Republican Primary.

This all comes as McCain surges in South Carolina and is drawing massive crowds at campaign stops across the state.

I am a huge fan of Sen. McCain, and I believe he is a true American hero. But he lost my support for President when he proposed his immigration “reform” bill.

Fred Thompson is the only real conservative running. He is a federalist and believes in limited government. He supports the 2nd Amendment and the rest of the Constitution. He understands economics and why the American people should be deciding how to spend their money, not having Washington spend it for them. He is strong on national defense and understand the threat caused by global terrorism. He is pro-life and always has been.

Fred Thompson is the conservative choice, hands down!

Speaking of the truth squad, we still haven’t gotten an answer to this question we had for them:

[...] They even sent out an email this weekend stating: Tonight, volunteers making telephone calls for the McCain campaign report that some voters recently received negative information about Senator McCain. While we do not yet have conclusive proof, we are concerned that this may be the beginning of a smear campaign. [...]
