With the South Carolina Democratic primary still nearly three weeks away and the entire journalistic world still focused on New Hampshire, things may be so dire for Hillary Clinton’s campaign that they are already admitting defeat in this state.

“It’s still possible to win or take a close second in New Hampshire, but if the turnout even begins to mirror what happened in Iowa, all bets are off,” said a Clinton adviser, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The adviser added that the campaign has come to accept another reality of the early process, which is that African-American voters are convinced that Obama is viable and shifting rapidly in his direction.

“We’re going to lose South Carolina,” he said.

So, as MSNBC pondered, does this mean she skips South Carolina?  If so, then the only uncertainty surrounding the Jan. 26 primary will be, by how many points will Barack Obama win?

To the other six or seven Democrats who read Palmetto Scoop: We have an abundance of talent running in the SC Democratic Presidential Primary. I’d be happy with any of them. But if we want to heal the partisan and racial divides in this country, Obama is our best hope.
