Although Mitt Romney denied that last night’s disastrous showing in Iowa would slow down his bid for the White House, it appears that his South Carolina campaign is preparing for the worst. Sources tell me that for the last week, Luke Byars, Sen. Jim DeMint’s state director, has been working full time out of the Romney campaign’s SC headquarters.
Is this a sign that Romney’s state operation is in trouble? Absolutely.
This is a clear sign that DeMint, who really went out on a limb to support Romney, is concerned about how the campaign is being run in the Palmetto State. Either that, or he just has a lot of free time on his hands.
Considering Romney’s State Campaign Director Terry Sullivan and his cohorts have lost back-to-back statewide campaigns, he has every reason to be worried. And the parallels between the Romney campaign and one of those losses — the failed state treasurer campaign of Greg Ryberg — are overwhelming.
Both Romney and Ryberg hail from Yankee territory. Both are independently wealthy. Both put piles of their own money in the race. And both let the lead slip out from under them when the game was really on the line.

Seems to me people are sick of liars. Mr. DeMint can involve himself and his staff in Mr. Romeny’s campaign but I dont think it will help. People want the truth. Seems the only R in the mix telling it is Mr. Paul.
And it appears that letting the state’s business go for a while is a okie dokie with our Senator DeMint. No wonder the people of South Carolina have no representation in DC or anywhere else for that matter.
Is Luke Byers collecting a government paycheck for this?
Let’s see, the primaries have finally begun, votes have finally been cast, and South Carolina is two weeks away. . . .
Why would anyone expect that people might be spending more time with the presidential race, than with a Senate Race–when DeMint isn’t even on the ballot this year.
What’s next?
Is there any piece of news that happens in South Carolina that doesn’t prop up McCain or tear down Romney?
On a final note of hypocricy you said:
“No wonder the people of South Carolina have no representation in DC or anywhere else for that matter.”
What about the people of Arizona? While a bill with 11,000 earmarks in it goes to the Senate for vote, McCain fails to show up–even though he is the champion of fiscal restraint. At least DeMint was there for that one.
MCCain should be running as a democrat. How can any true Republican even remotely consider voting for this guy. he won’t sign a “no taxes increase” pledge, he sponsored the illegal immigrants amnesty and welfare act, he sponsored a anti-free speech legislation and refused to support the Bush tax cuts. HOW is he a replublican????????????? How, just because he is war hero. Wonderful, give him another medal, but for God and Country sake, don’t give him the Republican nomination.
Wake up America. Wake up South Carolina
