Capps backs Rudy

Influential South Carolina blogger Earl Capps Wednesday became the second well-read Palmetto Stater to officially back a presidential candidate — after our endorsement of John McCain, of course — when he announced on his Website that he was supporting former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Many recognize Giuliani’s leadership during the tragedy of 9/11. As Mayor of New York City, there is no public figure that could be more closely associated with that day, but to support him solely upon our recollection of 9/11 would not be enough.

There are many great Americans who have risen to the occasion when crises occur, but a President has to be about more than one historical moment, even one as large as 9/11. Our President must be able to see and think long-term, define the vision necessary to address the challenges that lie ahead, and have the ability to work to make that vision a reality.

Time and time again, Rudy Giuliani has answered the call of duty. [EARL CAPPS - The Blogland]

You can read the entire endorsement here.

Capps briefly flirted with the idea of running for the vacant State Treasurer’s seat in July, but failed to receive a nomination during the special election.  He began his blog, “The Blogland,” nearly two and a half years ago and has built a strong readership during that period.

We’ve also heard rumors that Will Folks at FITSNews will make an endorsement in the near future, but I have no idea when that will be or whom he will choose.  But I think it’s safe to say we can rule out Mitt Romney.

Are you kidding? I was the frontrunner. All the voices in my head said I was ahead of Tim Scott, Greg Ryberg and even Converse Chellis.

Believe me, the voices in my head don’t lie. Why didn’t I stay in it to win it? Because I was trying to be nice. But I still had so much support that I got the same number of votes as the Governor’s candidate. Maybe that’s a sign of how strong my support was … or how weak the Governor’s is?

Oh come on, Will might surprise us and come out for ol’ Mitt after all. You just never know.

Seriously, the support and readership I’ve got is thanks in no small part to my fellow bloggers and my readers. For some reason, they tune in, pass the word, and keep coming back. I’m not exactly sure why, but I am grateful.
