Well, Senator Obama has dropped some education knowledge on South Carolina. He wants to reform the No Child Left Behind Act, the Bush administration’s proudest achievement to date! The policy has produced an ethos of reward for mediocrity, an inevitable pitfall of socialistic ideals. I think my golf game deserves some federal funding too – I hit two houses last week.
I know what you’re thinking. “Barack Obama is gonna rid us of this flawed centralized education policy.” Quite the contrary, sir. While he doesn’t spell out all of his ideas for reform, he does mention something about using more assessment tools for categorizing substandard schools. This concept inevitably means more government centralization and fewer local options such as school choice programs. Yea I said it.
I know what you’re thinking. “Well at least his plan won’t cost 18 billion dollars annually.” No ma’am, but thank you for playing. Obama will say “put it on my tab, along with 40 billion annually for socialized medicine, ooo and can you throw in a pack of smokes? No, don’t worry; future generations will pay for it. TRUST me they’re good for it.”
I’m kidding. Of course he would never say that. Instead he claims the funding will come from cutting government spending. Whatever. His strategy is similar to that kid who wins student council president in middle school because he tells everyone he’ll put Cheerwine in the drinking fountains and make the snack machines fire out free candy.
Try this on for size. Reform the NCLB Act by getting rid of it and pretending it never happened. Stop federal education policy making. It is an encroachment on the duties that are constitutionally reserved for the States and for the People. Sometimes I scare myself.
HAPPY THANKSGIVIN’
