Rashid Kay Shares Why Touchline Truth Did Not Make “Lyricist Of The Year” At SAHHA 2022

Rashid Kay has explained why Mzansi rapper Touchline did not make the “Lyricist Of The Year” category at SAHHA 2022.

The SAHHAs have always been about awarding incredible talent and performances by the country’s best rappers. Last year, fans were shocked that Touchline did not make the cut for “Lyricist Of The Year” even after dropping the acclaimed “S.O.O.N 2” album.

Explaining why, Rashid Kay, who organizes the show, said, “He’s a dope lyricist, probably who’s number six, and we wanted five lyricists,” Rashid said. He continued, “We had Ginger, we had Priddy Ugly, we had PdotO, we had Landmarq.”  He explained the criteria for being nominated, saying, “Lyricist Of The Year doesn’t look at anything else but Lyrics, your pen game, your poetic element,”

“You could be having ten followers, if you’re going crazy with the pen game you’re Lyricist Of The Year. That’s one category that all these popular n**gas have never been nominated for. We’ve never had Cassper as Lyricst Of The Year, we’ve never had Supa Mega as Lyricist. It’s not about popularity. That’s how Touchline lost out.”
