We have never done a “Fact of the Day” post before, and we probably won’t do any in the near future, but we read an interesting little piece of trivia that says a lot about the safety of incumbency in South Carolina.
From Dan Hoover:
In fact, not since 1992, when Republican Bob Inglis knocked off three-term Democrat Liz Patterson in the Upstate’s 4th Congressional District, has one been ousted. Usually it’s retirement or the lure of the Senate that opens a seat.
That means that in 48 congressional elections in that 14-year span, only one incumbent has lost. [DAN HOOVER - Greenville News]
