Colbert 2008

We wrote Wednesday that comedian/faux presidential contender Stephen Colbert would be appearing at the College of Charleston Saturday for a “Rock the Vote” event. But now we have received word that the 3 p.m. event has been canceled.

The following message was sent to students early Thursday:

Due to the weather and other conflicting events, Stephen Colbert will not be able to make it this Saturday. We talked to his people this afternoon and they gave us the bad news. However, if not before, he will be coming down to Charleston in January to tape some shows of the Colbert Report at the Sottile Theatre. Thank you very much for helping me get the word out about this event and I will let you know if he does decide to come down before his show in January. Thanks.

Canceled due to weather? Short of a looming hurricane or Armageddon, who the hell would cancel an event due to weather more than 48 hours in advance?

And what weather? It’s supposed to be 75 and partly cloudy in Charleston Saturday.
