TALK SHOW HOST WILL RUN IN ‘SOUTH CAROLINA ALONE’
COULD-BE-PRESIDENT, S.C. (TPS) - We noted last week that Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert told CNN’s Larry King that he was using the launch of his recent book “I Am America (and So Can You!)” as the start of his bid to win the White House.
Now it turns out that Colbert, who is running as a “Favorite Son,” will only enter the South Carolina primary. Said Colbert, “I am from South Carolina, I am for South Carolina, and I defy any other candidate to pander more to the people of South Carolina. Those beautiful, beautiful people.”
The Associated Press reports:
“I shall seek the office of the President of the United States,” announced Colbert on his Comedy Central show Tuesday, as red, white and blue balloons fell around him. …
Shortly before making the announcement, Colbert appeared on “The Daily Show” (the show which spawned Colbert’s spin-off) and played cagy, claiming he was only ready to consider a White House bid. He entered the studio set pulled by a bicycle pedaled by Uncle Sam and quickly pulled out a bale of hay and a bottle of beer to show that he was “an Average Joe.”
Colbert said his final decision would be announced on a “more prestigious show,” which turned out to be his own.
“After nearly 15 minutes of soul-searching, I have heard the call,” said Colbert. …
Colbert said he planned to run in South Carolina, “and South Carolina alone.” The state, one of the key early primaries, is also Colbert’s native state. Earlier this week, South Carolina public television station ETV invited Colbert to announce his candidacy on its air. [JAKE COYLE - AP]

Stephen is an ivy-league educated individual. He is smart and witty. I, personally, am tired of candidates in both parties being “for good things, and against bad things.” There is a lot of talk from both parties, but nothing is being said. I am tired of a popularity contest to get your party’s nomination, and then the public (or the electoral college, or your-brother-the-govenor) gets to choose the lesser of two stupids. At least with some truthiness (Copyright, Stephen Colbert), we could get a good wake-up call for America. COLBERT in ‘08!
Many wonder why to study history. History has a tendency to repeat itself. Rome had its corrupt ‘fat’ senate as a cancer on what once made it great. Deja vu anyone? How can we as a nation move in a new direction if we continue to complacently fill, sorry strike that, renew the lease of people that lead our country. The ones who vote for them should be so lucky to have that job security OR retirement plan! So called 3rd world countries have a far better voting record than we do, Apathy is contagious. The world is changing and we cannot just stay the same without it passing US by. Stephen Colbert has a creative and fresh way to view the world we share. We could only wish his one state bid could even start the wakeup call Our Nation desperately needs. They cant handle the Truthiness [(c) Colbert] COLBERT 08
