All four Republican members of South Carolina’s U.S. House delegation are backing Sen. Lindsey Graham’s re-election bid, according to the senator’s campaign. Reps. Henry Brown, Joe Wilson, Gresham Barrett and Bob Inglis have all signed-on to serve as vice chairmen for Graham, ending the likelihood that Graham will draw a serious challenge in next year’s primary election.
“I’m honored to have to have the support of Henry, Joe, Gresham, and Bob,” Graham said. “In Washington, we have worked together to move our state and nation forward and to stand tall for the conservative cause. They are all leaders in our nation’s capitol and represent our state with honor and distinction. I’m proud to call them friends, and I’m honored to have them serving in our campaign.”
With Barrett — who was rumored to be considering a run against Graham — choosing to endorse the state’s senior senator, rumors of a possible 2010 gubernatorial campaign will grow louder.
“Lindsey Graham is guided by principle and will fight tooth and nail for his state and his country,” said Barrett. “He continues to show us that he has the character and the guts it takes to succeed and lead in the Senate.”
The Graham for Senate campaign has a reported $4 million war chest and, with these four endorsements in the bag, may not need to spend much of it.
