We never thought we would have to say this, but presidential candidate Ron Paul will be, sigh, hijacking the radio waves in the Palmetto State this weekend. The ad attempts to convince voters that Paul is “more than just an anti-war candidate.”
The ad buy will consume $430,000 of Paul’s $5 million raised last quarter and is split between Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
ABC News has the text of the ad:
Narrator: Who is Ron Paul, Republican candidate for president. Ron Paul served his country as a flight surgeon after the Cuban missile crisis. As a young doctor, Ron Paul worked nights in the emergency room of an inner city hospital, talking care of everyone, whether they could pay or not.
As an OB-GYN Ron Paul delivered over 4,000 babies.
As a doctor, Ron Paul knows our healthcare system needs real change, where patients and doctors are in charge, not big corporations or government bureaucrats. As a Congressman for almost two decades, Ron Paul knows our Constitution is there to protect our freedom and limit government in our lives.
He has never voted for a tax increase or an unbalanced budget. His record clearly shows he will cut taxes and stop runaway spending. People who know him call him the taxpayer’s best friend.

Paul: I’m Ron Paul and I approved this message. [Z. BYRON WOLF - ABC News]
Maybe he should start by convincing voters he’s not crazy, and then work his way up to foreign policy. Baby steps Dr. No, baby steps.

Yes of course, because they allow crazy people into the air force to serve as flight surgeons.
At some point, Mr. Editor, you’re going to have to concede that ordinary Americans are upset with both the course our government has taken since ‘94 and with the pathetic joke that is the gang of current Republican nomination frontrunners.
The next fact you resist will be that Ron Paul is becoming the outlet of expression for that frustration.
Some of us still hold a bit of respect for the constitution and limited government. And some of us don’t make all of our decisions based on cowardly fear of the Islamic bogeymen on the other side of the earth.
Or am I mistaken, and you actually do posses the various degrees and qualifications nessecary to diagnose a person mentally ill?
Ron Paul is the only real choice for president. I urge anybody and everybody that has not heard Dr. Paul’s message to please look him up on youtube, google, and his own website at http://www.ronpaul2008.com
There’s a reason that so many people are flocking to Congressman Paul’s message of freedom. People are sick and tired with the ineffiency of the federal government. It’s time to give more power back to the states and elect someone that understands the constitution!
This post is a bit disappointing.
The Palmetto Scoop tends to be pro-market, anti-entitlement, and in favor of responsibly exercised rights. These are the positions that Dr. Paul stands for, and he has stuck by them in a more consistent and unwavering manner than any of the other GOP contenders.
Let’s not forget that Sen. McCain (who TPS clearly supports) occupies the Senate Seat once held by Barry Goldwater. It is in this tradition of limited government Republicanism that Dr. Paul bases his vision of reform.
If you are going to be critical of Dr. Paul then use of ad hominem attacks and intellectual inconsistency is crude, and out of step with the sharp and witty tone TPS generally takes.
