Rumors are circulating through the back channels of the Palmetto State — or wherever these things happen — that not one, but two Wilkins’ are showing interest in running for governor in 2010.

Several Republican sources have told me that both Federal Judge Billy Wilkins and his brother, former House Speaker David Wilkins are considering the race.

Judge Wilkins, who recently stepped down as a full time judge, told me it would be improper for him to talk about politics.

But the sources tell me he has been making calls in the Upstate showing his interest.

David Wilkins, who is currently U.S. Ambassador to Canada, is also said to be seriously looking at the race.

Among others on the early Republican watch list are House Speaker Bobby Harrell, Attorney General Henry Mcmaster, Congressman Gresham Barrett and Spartanburg Senator Jim Ritchie. [DAVID STANTON - WIS]
