DA Up In Arms Against The Consideration Of Kholeka Gcaleka For Public Protector

The Democratic Alliance, the major opposition party in South Africa, is opposing the consideration of Kholeka Gcaleka as the new public prosecutor for the Rainbow Nation.

The National Assembly of South Africa had voted to recommend Kholeka Gcaleka as the public prosecutor following the controversial exit of the lady who used to occupy the position. However, the DA is adamant that Kholeka Gcaleka is unfit to assume the position.

The argument for the opposition to Adv. Kholeka Gcaleka is that the position of public prosecutor requires a high level of integrity and the advocate does not possess such. On its official website, the party dismissed Kholeka Gcaleka as nothing more than a “dubious mediocrity” whose cosy relationship with her boss led to massive promotion at work

The DA and the ruling African National Congress (ANC) rarely see eye to eye on issues, so the latest opposition to the consideration of Kholeka Gcaleka for the role of public prosecutor is in no way surprising.

What is unclear at the moment is whether the DA will succeed in blocking Kholeka Gcaleka from not only being considered for the role of public prosecutor but also from assuming the same in the end. Time will tell.
