Retired political reporter Lee Bandy of The State was on MSNBC this morning discussing the South Carolina primary. Bandy, one of the most influential writers in the state, made an interesting remark about presidential candidate Mitt Romney (R-Mass.), saying, “Romney has a hard time connecting with the Republican voters here in South Carolina.”
Bandy went on to assert that Palmetto State voters find Romney to be “too slick” and that he flip-flops too often. And for good measure, he threw in a jab about Romney being a Yankee.

Mr. Romney will make all these critics EAT THEIR WORDS!..just you watch. Remember Romney is the “turnaround” candidate. He has the experience and the competence. He also has the values that the southerners have. And when Romney finally beats Hillary in the general election, becoming the next President, the Southerners will call it a miracle!…or, simply, a “turnaround”.
Romney started the Commonwealth PAC, a personnel slush fund, with a state PAC in a dozen primary states including SC. Last year one person gave $50,000 to five seperate Romney PACs.
Is this a loop hole in the law to get around campaign finance laws or is it just illegal? Are not PACs non profit organizations that are only supposed to support issues and not candidates?
This money is used to buy support, although it does not seem to be working according to the polls. Reference: Fortune July 9, 2007 Race for the White House, Mitt Romney, page 60 – 62.
