People’s Fund Of Maui: Oprah Defends Herself Amid Criticism

American entrepreneur and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey is facing massive criticism over her Peoples Fund of Maui. But she appears unbothered by the criticisms. She has, instead, defended her initiative.

Just recently, a wildfire swept through Maui, leaving unprecedented devastation in its wake. In a bid to ensure residents are taken care of one way or the other, the wealthy entrepreneur had linked up with actor Dwayne Johnson and the two established the People’s Fund of Maui.

That was last month. The initiative aims to give money directly to those affected by the wildfire. To show their seriousness, they started with a combined fund of $10 million from both of them. They had thereafter asked members of the public to fund the rest of the project.

That was where “trouble” started for Oprah, as critics erupted from everywhere, questioning why she and The Rock had not simply funded the initiative themselves given how wealthy they are.

Reacting to the whole criticism, she noted that she was excited to take the initiative, only to wake up in the morning to see the vitriol directed at her, describing them as nothing more than  “attacks, lies and conspiracy theories.” For her, clearly, life goes on.
