“We need textbooks that don’t refer to the Civil Rights movement as ‘trouble ahead.’” That poignant line from The West Wing is not a hyperbole when describing the “Corridor of Shame” – a rural stretch of South Carolina along the I-95 corridor that is plagued by some of the worst public education systems in America.

Democratic candidates Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards have visited or will visit the area in an attempt to “shine a light” on the problem. Obama toured the area this week, and Edwards, who once attended South Carolina public schools, said he will soon do the same. Clinton, not to be outdone, will also visit the area.

So how bad is it? The trailer for a 58 minute documentary on the Corridor of Shame makes a pretty compelling case.

Wait… Savannah isn’t the largest city in the world? Man has already landed on the moon? Seriously… this is sad.
