BLOGGER ANDREW SULLIVAN MAKES LIST AT NO. 46
Men’s Magazine GQ has just released a list of the 50 Most Powerful People in D.C. As they put it, “In Washington, you are either a person with power or a person who acts like he has power.”
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice tops the list, with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in second. We can see why they might choose Rice, but GQ has no idea what they are talking about with Reid – a “leader” who has failed miserably keep Senate Democrats on message. Only two presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were in the top 50.
Realistically, Ben Bernanke should be in the top spot and White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolton should be in the top 5; and neither should be behind the Vice President’s CoS. Justice Anthony Kennedy at number four is also a terrible choice. Some other interesting rankings were Ronald Reagan at 13, Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder at 31 and Obama’s Communications Director, Robert Gibbs, at 34.
Despite it shortfalls, what this list does more than anything is highlight the fact that the real power in the U.S. is held largely by people the average American has never heard of. Most people can identify more American Idol contestants that people on this list.
And a BIG CONGRATULATIONS are in order for fellow blogger Andrew Sullivan of The Atlantic, perhaps the most influential conservative in the blogosphere, who took the number 46 spot.

See the entire list with explanations. The most interesting may be about Tim Russert and the insane amount of preparation his guests undergo before going on Meet the Press.
