Maybe we shouldn’t get so mad at Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney for his burgeoning, constantly ridiculous, flip-floppery. After all, as the Political Wire notes in their “flip flop of the day,” Hillary Clinton does it all the time. The only difference is that Clinton is a little more discrete.
“I thought that was irresponsible and frankly naive… I don’t want to be used for propaganda purposes.”
— Sen. Hillary Clinton, in an interview earlier today with the Quad City Times, criticizing Sen. Barack Obama’s statement last night that as president he would meet with “the leaders of several countries antagonistic to the United States.”
“I would begin diplomatic discussions with those countries with whom we have differences, to try to figure out what is the depth of those differences. I think it is a terrible mistake for our president to say he will not talk with bad people. You don’t make peace with your friends — you have to do the hard work of dealing with people you don’t agree with.”
— Clinton, quoted by CBS News in April, criticizing President Bush’s refusal to meet with “supposed enemies” of the United States. [Political Wire]

I wonder sometimes in this election what we are all really looking for in a President. From a different perspective, what do you look for in a spouse? Is it enough to find someone who can talk smoothly that you have no past history to draw from? (I know that in the hormonal heat of the moment, plenty of people might pop down to Vegas for some rushed nuptials but most people see the lack of wisdom in such a course). It amazes me how many of us would be tempted to marry our country to anyone (proven or not) who can say whatever the electorate wants to hear (in the most ardent of spirits of course) We might as well get engaged to the first stranger we “meet” in a chat room…
I rather think it should be someone whose past track record is proven (as close as I could get to referencing courting), whose motives are honorable and whose judgment is sound. It should be someone we could actually like.( I didn’t know if I should take it to the extreme of the metaphor with that L-O-V-E word)
This song
Raise The Bar might capture part of what I’m trying to say.(if you haven’t heard it, pass it along, if you have heard it, why not listen again…and pass it on too!)
So…Who do you think we should get hitched to???
