Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney (R-Mass.) was confronted Sunday at a town hall meeting in New Hampshire about the now-infamous South Carolina “sign picture” in which a supporter compared Democratic rival Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton to Osama bin Ladin. And, says TMZ who originally broke the story, he gave the “wrong answer.”

Romney initially tried to dodge the question, but when attendees shouted requests to “answer the question,” he told the detractors to “lighten up.” Watch the awkward clip:

So to anyone who ever has or will dislike or disagree with anything we say on The Palmetto Scoop: LIGHTEN UP!

Wait, isn’t that what your boss, John McCain, said to people who were critical of his “Bomb, Bomb Iran” song? Good for the Goose…

Thanks for showing the video. Initially I thought that Romney’s answer to the question was “Lighten Up”. What the video actually showed was a group of hecklers who were trying to make a headline, feigning emotional response to 9-ll as a tool in their political agenda. The comment to “lighten-up” was in response to the fact that the hecklers wouldn’t drop it and they were embarassing the rest of the attendees who were tring to act civil and polite.

Romney knows this is a game to these operative who were there trying to create a macaca moment. As such, he knew they were taking their little game to seriously and needed to “Lighten Up!”.

As a conservative blog, I would expect you to put aside your McCain bias and actually defend Romney against such tactics from the left. The time will come when we need to unite and this happens to be a point of common ground.

As for the sign, I think Romney should respond that while those three individuals may not share equal ground in the battle he wages against each one, to one degree or another, they are all considered opponents and whoever came up with the slogan, was pretty creative.
