With Monday’s Democratic presidential debate in Charleston consisting entirely of YouTube-submitted questions, South Carolina’s hard-hitting GOP Chair Katon Dawson cleverly decided to craft a pair of questions about taxes. Dare we say that Dawson truly is… “THE MAN”?Dawson YouTube

From the greatest source in news:

“Most of you have voted to repeal the Bush tax cuts, and on the campaign trail you’ve promised to raise taxes,” Dawson said in his first question. “Please put a dollar amount on how much you intend to raise our taxes.”

In his second question, the state GOP chairman asked the candidates to state their definition of wealthy and middle class.

“There is a legitimate debate in our country about whether to cut taxes or raise taxes,” Dawson said. “Democrats define Republican tax cuts as tax cuts for the wealthy. Republicans say tax cuts are for people who actually pay taxes. At the core of this debate, the disagreement seems to be about how the two parties define wealthy and middle class. I’d like to hear your definition of the terms wealthy and middle class.”

Dawson’s questions are just two of the more than 2,400 submitted so far by people eager to hear the candidates address their concerns. The debate will be moderated by CNN’s Anderson Copper and airs live from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. ET with a replay at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT. [MARK PRESTON - CNN]

Wait, what happened to the “one entry per person” rule? And we’re glad to see Dawson was able to get in the line he “borrowed” from The American President, “My name is Katon Dawson and I AM the Chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party.” Although it would have sounded more Andrew Shepherd-like if he had done it at the end.

Listen again PS. He says, “Hello, I’m Katon Dawson, Chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party.” No borrowing here.

So what? Katon (aka professional toady for Mark Sanford) reverts to the olde Republican standby…cut or raise taxes.
Well…Katon and Sanford (and SC GOP) have been in charge for 5 years now and government has grown by an astonishing rate. Our debt (in unfunded liabilities, and off the books debt by state agency) are soaring, and the public has increasing doubts about the integrity of our politicians and party.
Yet…all they can do is go back to the old “tax and spend” game. The national GOP was trounced and was thrown out of office, mainly because they loved the K street lobbyist more than they did the people. The SC GOP is the same way…do not be surprised if the Republicans find themselves Stunned in O8.
This, sadly, from a lifelong republican. But my state party has been stolen from me…just like the national party. Sanford and Dawson will go down in history s the boys that fiddled while the elephant burned…

NO Republican can win in 08…remember, this debate was held in the very Republican South Carolina, where the government has grown by 42% in TWO years!!! With Republican Governor Mark Sanford, and a Republican Senate and House…they have fed at the trough like the DC GOP. Sanford and others talk, but when time comes to lead…they pass!

We have lost our way, and cannot win. After the 08 trouncing, we can rise again. But we must take out punishment before we can win the day.
