Poor Rudy Giuliani has had a terrible month. Recent news that his South Carolina Campaign Chairman Thomas Ravenel was distributing cocaine was followed up by information that he neglected his role on the Iraq Study Group to attend paid public appearances. Just a few days later, Giuliani came under heavy scrutiny for refusing to fire a Catholic priest hired by the ex-mayor’s security consulting business. The priest allegedly molested children.

Then, as if things couldn’t get worse for Giuliani, former Environmental Protection Agency head Christine Whitman said that in the wake of 9/11, Giuliani was “more concerned with [his administration's] image than the safety and speedy response of EPA employees.” While testifying in front of Congress Monday as to why workers at the World Trade Center cleanup site were not required to wear respirators, Whitman elaborated on the statement by saying that only the mayor could have effectively given such an order.

And, to make matters worse, Giuliani has stopped receiving communion.

Back in 2004 several Catholic bishops in the U.S. said they would deny Holy Communion to Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry because of his pro-choice stance on the abortion issue.

Now presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani, who is Catholic and shares similar views on abortion, may be seeking to avoid controversy by choosing not to receive communion. Catholics believe Holy Communion is the body and blood of Jesus Christ, and it is one of the main sacraments (Eucharist) of the Catholic Church. [NewsMax]
