Since reporting Friday night that “the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is now inviting select members of the community to talk about [a possible Democratic presidential] debate,” WPDE-TV says it has learned that members of the U.S. Congress have descended upon the coastal S.C. region to “learn more about the area.”
As NewsChannel 15 has already reported, the Palace Theatre in Myrtle Beach is likely to be the debate location. It would be the final showdown of the Democratic candidates before South Carolinians vote in the primary.
Congressman James Clyburn, who is instrumental in making the decision, previously told NewsChannel 15 that Myrtle Beach is in a strong position.
Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Brad Dean says pulling off such a big event will take a broad-based community effort that must begin immediately. He estimates a presidential debate on the Grand Strand in January could bring tens of millions of dollars into the local economy. [WPDE-TV]
