We just spoke with a member of the House GOP leadership who told The Palmetto Scoop that Rep. Tracy Edge (R-Horry) is the “odds-on favorite” to fill the director position at the state Department of Health and Human services left open by the resignation of Robbie Kerr. The agency has the largest budget in the state, totaling more than $4 billion in state and (mostly) federal funding, and oversees education, Medicaid and health care to families living in poverty.

The source said that Edge is strongly considering the position, but the decision is on hold until the end of the session. We attempted to contact Edge, but he was not available for comment.

Thatll be a good fit. Edge is a great guy and a solid House member. I just hope he’s ready to take on education.

I agree Borry. This is huge news if it happens and comes totally out of nowhere but Tracy Edge would do well to head such a huge department.

Good point jason. Sanford’s a turd and Edge can do much better than that. He should run for a Senate seat.

Jenny would never let it happen…a legislator for a job like that. Sanford hates all the Legislators. Thats why he can’t get anything done.

Well if Mark can’t even wear the pants while leading the executive branch, who would expect him to wear the pants at the Governors mansion?

We’re replacing sh*t with crap. And it is all coming out of Sanford, PPIC, and SCRG’s asses. Tracy Edge works for Burroughs and Chapin… what does he know about Health and Human Services? Shouldn’t that be a job for a health specialist?

This type of appointment reminds me of another failed Sanford appointment: Ralph Norman.

Comment above comes from an idiot. Tracy Edge is THE healthcare expert of the House and Senate and oversees all hunding for health agencies. Plus, to work for Burroughs and Chapin means he is an experienced businessman. Obviously Marshall Clement above could not be hired by a top corporation like them.

No doubt Tracy Edge is a good guy with a bright politicial future. He is clearly senate material and I mean US Senate. Why would he leave his elected position in Horry County and leave his great job to move to Columbia and be labeled as an associate of Gov Sanford? Tracy is a bright star that can do much better in the political arena. Thoughts?
